Dealing With Diabetic Retinopathy

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

3 Tips You Should Know

If your asking yourself what is Diabetic Retinopathy you are not alone. While it is the leading cause of Blindness in adults in the US, many still don’t know what it is. Diabetic Retinopathy is a disease of the eyes caused by high levels of sugar in the blood. The sugar damages the blood vessels in the eyes causing vision loss, and sometimes pain.

There are 4 stages of Diabetic Retinopathy:

Mild Nonproliferative Retinopathy

Moderate Nonproliferative Retinopathy

Severe Nonproliferative Retinopathy

Proliferative Retinopathy

In the first two stages the Retinopathy causes the blood vessels to swell and become blocked. During the last two stages the body grows more blood vessels that are thinner and the walls can leak causing bleeding in the eye. In the most severe form blindness can occur.

Below are 3 tips you should know about Diabetic Retinopathy:

Be sure to get a dilated eye exam every 12 months: Getting your eyes checked regularly will help catch diabetic Retinopathy at and early stage.

You can develop both Proliferative Retinopathy and modular edema: These two stages don’t always have symptoms however they can put you at risk for vision loss.

You can reduce your risk of vision loss by 95% with treatment: Making sure that your eyes are examined and you get early treatment can reduce your risk of blindness considerably.

US Military Approves the Visian ICL for Active Duty Soldiers

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Myopia or Nearsightedness can be a problem on the battlefield. And while our men and woman are fighting for our rights and privileges it is our duty to uphold their health including vision. It is of the utmost importance that our US Military personnel have excellent vision while on duty. Nearsightedness while not generally a big worry can take a very different level of importance on the battlefield.

Soldiers are finding that use of the Visian ICL (insertable contact lens) to treat Myopia is a much better option than use of traditional contact lens that must be removed and inserted and cared for on a daily basis. Below are a few reasons you should consider using the Visian ICL before stepping onto the battlefield.

Reason 1: Visian ICL improves vision with an excellent quality of vision. And helps improve vision for soldiers both day & night. 100% of soldiers say it has improved their vision better than their glasses or contact lens.

Reason 2: It can treat severe myopia when patient is not a good candidate for Lasik or PRK. Getting good results when the cornea is too thin to treat or even Irregular or when the patient has large pupils to perform other alternative treatments.

Reason 3: Visian ICL has a quicker recovery time which is essential for those on active duty in the Military. It can reduce glares and halos which lead to improved night vision important when soldiers are on the battlefield.

While the Visian ICL is a great treatment for all of those who suffer from Myopia, it helps those who are serving in our military a great deal. Providing improved vision to help protect our country. Is there a better reason to use this treatment than that?
